Inside the NAGRA 4S

Undo two captive screws, and the whole machine opens up into two halves. Disconnect a multiway connector, and you can seperate the transport and the electronics completely. The case consists of an upper and lower drawn-alloy box, with various flat anodic engraved panels fixed to the sides. Components are of the highest quality, and the entire machine exudes a no-nosense funcionality and confidence.

This is the underside of the ingeniously-simple tape transport, with its single servo-controlled DC motor driving the capstan directly, and driving each reel indirectly via a large O-ring and clutch.

This is very much a hand-made, modular machine; very straight-forward to work on.
